Recovering Hospitality

Do you delight in the opportunity to be hospitable; receiving and entertaining strangers with kindness and without reward? Romans 12:13 says "Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality." Another scripture says to "serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men." I have found that exercising hospitality is much easier when our freezers are stocked with wholesome foods prepared in our kitchens with natural, whole ingredients. Cooking during the frigid, gray, perhaps snow-bound, days of winter is the perfect occasion for stocking your freezer, and preparing foods that not only nourish family, friends and strangers, while filling your home with wonderful smells of delicious breads and roasted meats. A Saturday morning spent cooking enables me to focus my cooking creativity into a short time slot while producing large batches of food to feed the family today and in the weeks to come. With a little planning, multiple batches of foods can be packaged for the freezer so that food is ready at a moment's notice or when time does not permit lengthy food preparation. I rely upon DON'T PANIC DINNER'S IN THE FREEZER, MAKE A MIX, AND Fast and Healthy Main Dishes. I hope my family favorite recipes encourage you to serve the Lord wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, by practicing the "lost art" of offering hospitality. I pray you will be blessed as you seek to be a blessing to others. Lastly, I invite you to share your hospitality experiences and recipes with me for future issues of THE HEART OF THE URBAN HOMEMAKER.
