Last night I had a wonderful visit with Lorrie Flem regarding just some of her 13 Easy Things to Make Your Day More Productive that I published in my newsletter this week. We talked about the five areas that you must be diligent to always grow in, in order to be successful and happy on this earth, Strengthening the Mother/Daughter relationship, and making your husband the Priest of your home.

We also touched on some of Lorrie's favorite subjects: Attitude Adjustments, what obedience looks like, and Lorrie's method of measuring obedience, CRIJ. Lorrie says, Obedience must be Completely, Respectfully, Immediately, Joyfully, and, or it isn't obedience and a discipline session is in order.

Lest we think this is a high standard, Lorrie read a testimonial from a young lady that used to be her mother's helper and she writes about how her attitude was transformed from thinking Lorrie was too strict with her children to how she recognized that happy children are obedient children, that attitude was everything in transforming the children. Lorrie adds, "Training our children's attitude is how we teach our children to learn to obey God, cheerfully and then we will be happy. Attitude is everything."

After the seminar was over, a listener emailed me asking, "What is a discipline session?" Since I know that we all want our children to be happy and obedient, I asked Lorrie if it was ok to reprint her response, and she has given me permission to reprint it below. (This may be a new book in the future!)

"What Is A Discipline Session?"
by Mrs. Lorrie Flem

"A discipline session refers to all that goes into disciplining and thus, training a child. Discipline is not just a spanking, a discipline session makes sure that his heart is compliant and that he has a renewed desire to obey. You send the child into a room to meet you and you use the time before you go in with him to make sure there is no anger in you. When you go to him with your Bible (and I recommend you take another book, For Instructions In Righteousness, you have him identify what it was he did wrong.

Then you talk about why you are here. After you pray, then look in the Bible for examples of how God punishes the person who displays this sin and how He rewards those who do the opposite of it. This is where the book I just mentioned comes in. It is invaluable!

Then you spank, having him bend over for you (if he won't do this--this is disobedience also). Now comes the best part, you snuggle and hold him.

I usually leave the room with a very happy child with me. Sometimes when they are still feeling ashamed of themselves, I let them come out within 5 minutes. The rule is that they must have "sparkly eyes."

This is simply referring to the state of their heart. It should be happy--no anger or resentment of any kind. If there is, your discipline session was not effective and needs to be done again.

I love my children to pieces! That is why I discipline them. It would be easier to let it go in the short run. I speak from experience. In the long run you quickly find, it is easier to deal with it when they are young. As they become older, you might not even have an opportunity.

There is so much more on the specifics of this, and a parental biblical concordance (where you can get biblical illustrations to use for common problems) in our "Child Training - What To Do When Abel Is Raising Cain" bundle. It is a $58.00 dollar bundle on sale for $29.97.

In short, this is what a discipline session looks like in my home. Remember, the key, it is not in the spanking, it is what happens in their heart. I hope it helps you discipline - and thus train - your children in your home!
